Setting the table for an Italian tapas evening, La Dolce Vita style. No.6 in our series #romancingthehomesundays
Setting a table need not be a formal setting. This past weekend was my big 40! A few years back I travelled to Rome, Italy and was just so moved by all things Italian especially the simply relaxed atmosphere they seemed to approach all things with.
I settled on a theme of “La Dolce Vita” (the good life) as I wanted to celebrate this milestone not only in style but to celebrate a good life filled with beautiful friends and family.
I simply laid the tables with a garland of freshly cut viburnum cut off a tree in my garden, fresh roses, some artichokes, fresh and dried fruits. My guest was encouraged to eat from decor so to speak…this created a talking point, It not only looked beautiful but was practical too and gave me a pretty way to display the fruits.
Having invited over 70 guests to the festivities I need to be able to feed all of them and still keep the setting simple.
I decided to keep with the simple elegance of Italy I would serve delicious tapas and a selection of local artisan cheeses with parma ham and many other delightful yummies.
As the evening went on the garden took on a beautiful elegance lite up by fairy lights and candles.
But what is a party without a G&T? This by far was the highlight of the evening. I went on to set up a bespoke Gin bar with all sorts of delicious and creative ways to make up a G&T. From spicy chillies Gin to star anise, Turkish delight and fresh grapefruit. It was such a hit!
