It is that time of year when love is in the air…right??? But what does Valentines mean to you or me? It is just a commercial opportunity to spend money you don’t have on overpriced red roses or does it have a deeper meaning?
Well, I am ashamed to admit that Hubby and I don’t celebrate Valentines. But we will be celebrating 23 years together and 15 years of marriage (insert pat on the back here)… Anyways back to what Valentines actually means to me…
Blogging has been a such an incredibly personal journey for me. I have learnt so much about my self by simply spending time on myself and on the things that inspire me.
So in the spirit of writing from the heart and sharing my passion and love for life I am going to share a very personal journey that began on Valentine’s day two years ago 14th February 2017.
I was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer and I will never forget that day as long as I live! A day that changed everything about me and who I thought I was, and what I thought I wanted out of life. A day that the true meaning of love revealed itself, a love that my husband had given to me in my darkest moment.
Moving on two years later, through treatments, scans, tears of fear and tears of relief and finally knowing that I was going to make it out of this, in one piece! Our love stood strong and boy did Hubby mean it when he vowed: “in sickness and in health”. So each year when Valentines comes along, it now has a true meaning of love, it’s not just a day that filled with rose, chocolates, champagne…don’t get me wrong I love all those things….but it is a day that the love of two people become unbreakable. I look back now and thank God for this blessing in my life, I get to call Husband and father to my beautiful girls.
I don’t want to get too mushy…might be a bit late for that…but it is Valentines after all…
This week in the #romancingthehome we wanted to inspire you with beautiful and romantic bedrooms…in other words romancing our home for the most romantic time of the year.
Since my diagnosis I pledged to live each day to my fullest, fill it with love, prayer, beauty and carve out time for the smaller moments in life that make me smile. I know all too well that life can be changed in an instant and there is no better time than NOW!
I’m sure it is pretty obvious that I am obsessed with anything French and blush pink! Well, I think these pictures say a 1000 words…
I wanted to take you through a few steps that I use in my everyday life that make my bedroom and my life a little more romantic…who says its only for Valentine’s day!
Keep it Personal
Your bedroom is a sanctuary away for the busy family life with kids, pets, and everything in between.
Carve out a space that you can retreat to and that make you smile. I keep so many sentimental pieces in my room, it can be simple little things that have meaning to you or just a little trinket that caught your eye at an antique shop. Our main room is a very personal expression of my style.
This jewellery box was my great Grandmothers a family heirloom.
Add a little romance
I always have a rose or two next to my bed! Not a day goes by that I don’t have a fresh rose or flower next to my bed. There is something to be said about the beauty that God had in mind when he created a rose! I marvel at them…
Candles especially scented candles are a must in a romantic room. I sometimes light a candle just to enjoy the aroma. Not to mention it truly sets the tone for a romantic night.
Dressing the Bed
No description needed here, white linen is a must!
Add texture and colour to your bed by using scatter cushions and throws, to add that old world French charm monogram and tapestry pillows will give you an authentic feel.
A little decadence
Pillow mist! yes, you heard me…
I spray my pillow with the softest scent of Rose or Lavender and wild olive. I Buy my pillow mist from Morrells Boutique estate.
I wrote a blog on it a while back and it is a romantic room essential for me.
When I run out I make my own by mixing about 20 drops of rose and sandalwood essential oil with hot water, I get the oils from Ludwigs Roses
Please head over to my friends from #romancingthehome their rooms are just too beautiful.
Till next time
